My husband often says that the best thing that came out of one of my jobs, was meeting two people who at the moment were clients and today, a couple of years after, are two of our closest friends.
Some years back, this amazing couple started a non profit called PaidaOrphanage to support an orphanage run by religious Sisters and looking after kids who have lost their families to the continuous violence in the Northeastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Apart from finding sponsors for the children and contributions to help the kids get a chance to sense of ‘normalcy’ in life, they are also in the middle of a new school and new orphanage project that has had really positive feedback and is ahead of schedule for over a year.
I have been fortunate to take part in the design of their print media for the fundraising documents and the communications with ongoing sponsors, hoping to have a positive impact in their audience and therefore in the children’s lives.
Last year, the Sisters found a local videographer to record what life in the orphanage was like. With the task of editing a clip that would attract new people to get involved and act towards this cause, I set myself to watch over 2 hours of footage. And I found it astonishing that with all the struggles they go through daily, the security risks and the loss they have suffered, they just can’t stop dancing and singing every single day. And the best part of it, is that it is contagious. Just take a look and see for yourself…
Join the beat, spread the word and get involved.
